What is solar film?
Also commonly referred to as window tint, solar film is a micro-thin laminate, composed of polyester & metallized coatings, bonded by adhesives. The film is applied to finished glass to solve issues related to heat, privacy, aesthetics, glare, or UV.
It comes in various shades & colors, with varying heat rejection, and visible light transmission properties.

How Film Works By Reducing Heat Gain

TOTAL SOLAR ENERGY

Total solar energy is either reflected, absorbed, or transmitted. All of which will always equal 100%.

                                                                    Total reflected

                                                                    Total transmitted       =  100%

                                                                    Total absorbed

Text Box: Here are a few common solar films…..

Silver 15 %

This film has the highest heat rejection and glare reduction properties. It rejects up to 78% of the total incoming solar energy from the sun. When the sun hits this film, it becomes mirror-like, and one is unable to see inside when trying to look in from the outside. It is therefore commonly used for privacy as well. During the day, (or depending on the lighting situation, at night too) one can see out through the film from the inside. It thus has somewhat of a 2 - way mirror effect.

Silver 35 %

Very similar to the above - mentioned Silver 15%, this film is slightly lighter. It rejects slightly less heat and glare, but allows more light to come in through the window. It is also less reflective.

Grey, Green, Silver, Neutral 50 %

These films are much lighter than the above-mentioned silver ones. They are much more subtle, and hardly noticeable once up on the glass. These films are commonly applied to residential homes, condos, or storefronts. Some may have a slightly green or grey tinge.

IR Film

This is the lightest solar film available. It’s so close to being entirely clear, you won’t even know that it’s on the glass. If you want to stay cooler in a condo, office, home, or building without anyone knowing that there’s film on the glass, this is the choice for you! It’s also commonly used on store front windows, since it doesn’t interfere in the least with a view of the window display.

Black 5, 20, or 35%

These are your basic “sunglasses” window tints. 5% is the darkest, and gives good privacy. 35% is the lightest.

*Different films reflect & absorb varying degrees of solar energy, thereby allowing less heat to be transmitted through glass into your home.
